Natural sweating will mostly occur as a way for your body to cool down. By releasing extra water from your body, it is able to maintain a natural temperature and can release any extra energy that is causing a rise in heat. Naturally when one is anxious, he tends to sweat more. Certain food and drinks, nicotine, caffeine or its smell, could also trigger hyperhidrosis.
Medications may work for slight cases of hyperhidrosis but may not be as effective for others, making the success rate very limited. Aside from this, medications for hyperhidrosis also have several bothersome side effects such as dry mouth and dizziness. Medical science today can stop excessive sweating of some parts of the body. Despite the effect on excessive sweating, you can still be assured that it is non-life-threatening.
Antiperspirants are commonly used to combat excessive sweating, and are one of the most effective methods although they can only really be used for underarm sweating problems. In most cases this is just a temporary solution for underarm excessive sweating, but it is also helpful to prevent embarrassing social situations like having wet armpits during social functions. Antiperspirants that have a high concentration of Aluminium chloride work the best and they gum up the sweat glands to prevent them working properly. You can select antiperspirants based on their levels of Aluminium chloride concentration.
Antiperspirants can however cause irritation or even contact dermatitis, in form of a red, swollen, and itchy skin. In fact, antiperspirants are the cosmetic product most associated with skin irritation, but deodorants, especially herbal or crystal deodorants, may be less irritating for most people. Antiperspirants generally work best for mild to moderate cases. For people whose hyperhidrosis is triggered by stress, oral medications for anxiety and depression they can also be considered.

Sweating is the body’s natural defence, which maintains body temperature. Sweat normally contains water, and very small amounts of salt, urea, sugar and ammonia. By sweating body cools itself of the heat that may get generated because of outside temperature, physical work, and emotional stress.
Different Types of Sweat- There are two different types of sweat glands in our bodies – eccrine sweat glands and apocrine sweat glands. Eccrine glands are distributed all over the body. Apocrine sweat glands however, are located on the scalp, armpits and the genital area and tend not to produce much fluid. Sweat is generally odourless. Most of the times, it is the bacterial disintegration of sweat of both the types that produces odour.
Over and Under Sweating- some of us may suffer from over sweating (hyperhidrosis) or very less or no sweating (anhidrosis). Very low sweating may be life threatening, while over sweating may sometimes be caused by some severe body problems.
To avoid odour due to sweating, the best method is to keep skin dry. Good hygiene will not allow bacteria to develop and multiply. Change of clothes after sweating is another method, because clothes carry sweat and can cause odour. If you have excessive sweat or are getting troubled by sweat, please consult your doctor who may suggest different methods that may include use of antiperspirants, botox injection, Iontophoresis and in rare cases surgery.
